During their first seminar, the 22 members of the South Dakota Agricultural and Rural Leadership Class XIII cohort visited the South Dakota State University College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences last week to learn about the wide-reaching impact of the college, and the university, on agriculture in the state of South Dakota.

Jill Alms, an agricultural research manager and specialist, has been named South Dakota State University’s Civil Service Employee of the Month for December.

Nick Erickson, a senior electrical engineering major from Pierce, Nebraska, Erickson is the recipient of the major scholarship — the Center for Power Systems Studies Outstanding Senior Scholarship — a $5,000 award. Also,

South Dakota State University undergraduates showcased their agriculture industry internship experiences at Precision Connect 2025.

South Dakota State University instructor of low brass Bradley Snyder will present a faculty recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, in Founders Recital Hall at the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center.

Nicholus Hayen, a law enforcement officer with the University Police Department, has been named South Dakota State University’s Civil Service Employee of the Month for November.

South Dakota State University held its ninth annual Swine Day at Club 71 in Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium on Nov. 4. Organized by university swine research and extension personnel, the daylong event offered attendees a full day of learning and connection.

Catherine Maddock of Redwood Falls, Minnesota, will present her BFA thesis exhibition at South Dakota State University from Nov. 10-21.

The Joint Engineering Council in the Lohr College of Engineering for 2025-26 carries a strong taste of mechanical engineering. All five members of the executive committee are mechanical engineering majors. It is led by senior Connor Matthies of Hartford, who has an aerospace emphasis. He previous served as secretary.

Adeline Flaskey, financial program assistant for the Department of Mechanical Engineering, was SDSU’s Civil Service Employee of the Month for October. She has worked at SDSU since May 2018 and has shown exemplary performance, warm interpersonal skills and positive leadership, her nominators reported. They described her as a diligent worker with high attention to detail.
