Graduate Student Petitions
Some petitions require the signature from your college and/or your department or school.
- Locate the name of your college dean, associate dean or assistant dean.
- Locate the name of your department head or school director.
Notes from the Registrar's Office:
- Most petitions require one week processing after all signatures are complete.
- You will receive an email from DocuSign when your petition has been received and registration changes have been processed by the Registrar's Office.
- To check the status of your petition, log on to your account.
- SDSU's email address format for school officials is @sdstate.edu. Student emails are @jacks.sdstate.edu.
- International students: Please use the petition links designated for international students as they are set up to route to International Student and Scholar Engagement to ensure verification of visa compliance.

- : Adjust credit hours or late add a course for the current term.
- : Drop one or some but not all current term courses. This is to be used after the last day to drop for the semester. Check the semester schedules.
- : Request to drop one or some but not all courses with a full refund.
- (Fourth or More Attempt of a Course): Request to repeat a course for more than three times. The petition must indicate the specific, open section (e.g., BIOL 721 S01, CRN 12345) you are requesting to add to your registration. The petition cannot be processed without the section information.
- : Change to a different section for the same course. Example: moving from ME 691 S01 to ME 691 S02.

- : Late add a course or drop one or some but not all courses from a previous term.
Students wishing to withdraw (drop all or last active course) from current semester must contact the Registrar's Office for assistance. Please review the information at Course Drops and Withdraws for further information.
Withdrawal Petitions
These petitions are only for extenuating circumstances (ex. requesting to withdraw after the last day to drop, requesting an exemption to the tuition and course fee refund after the withdrawal process) and should only be completed in these identified cases.
- : To drop all courses after the last day to drop or to appeal the tuition and fee refund after the withdrawal process.
- : To drop all courses in a previous semester.
