Audition/Apply for PRT

Prairie Repertory is a professional summer stock theatre company on the campus of South Dakota State University. During our nine-week season, we produce four productions each summer.

For the 2026 season, we are seeking performers, technicians and designers.

  • The 2026 season runs from May 18-July 22, 2026.
  • All positions include housing and a $2,000 stipend.
  • Students participating in Prairie Repertory Theatre will be registered for one credit of THEA 480 at the university. This is done so you can receive campus housing, access the Miller Wellness Center and have the perks of a campus student. This is taken care of for you automatically.
  • Prairie Repertory Theatre operates Monday-Saturday. On a typical day, work hours are divided into three sections: 9 a.m.-noon, 1-3:50 p.m. and 4:10-7 p.m.
  • Sunday is a day off.
  • Performers work in a designated tech or business area when not in rehearsal.
  • Work areas may include costumes, scenery, props, lighting/sound and box office/publicity. We try to give preference to your first choice.
  • Technical-only positions are assigned to a specific shop and assist as production crew.

  • Jan. 16: Prairie Repertory Theatre auditions. Applications due
  • Beginning of February: Callback or interview requests are sent out.
  • Feb. 16: Performance callbacks are due.
  • March: Offers will be made via email.
Requirements
Performer Audition
  • ¸éé²õ³Ü³¾Ã©.
  • Headshot.
  • A song cutting and monologue of your choice not to total more than 90 seconds. Please make sure to slate yourself in your pieces. Selections should be geared toward our season.
  • A one-minute movement and dance sample.  This can be original work or from a class or production.
Designer/Technician
  • ¸éé²õ³Ü³¾Ã©.
  • Headshot or selfie.
  • Portfolio or photos of your work.
