Brookings native Angela (Hatton) Lammers will deliver the keynote address for the fourth annual Martin Luther King Jr. Rally and Marade at South Dakota State University.

The event begins at 10 a.m. Jan. 19 with a rally at Club 71 in Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium. A marade (march/parade) will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. either outdoors or in the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex (depending on weather) followed by food and socializing in Club 71 from 12:15 to 1 p.m.

Lammers is a Brookings High School graduate who now lives in Sioux Falls, where she owns Cetera Services LLC, a public relations and communications services firm Lammers founded in 2015.

Lammers will speak about King’s legacy and “what it means for us to celebrate the holiday that honors his life, work and impact. Each of us can honor that legacy through how we live our lives, how we go about our work, and how we blaze our own trails of impact to strengthen and support each other.â€

The daughter of the late James and Lois Hatton said she will be “bringing my perspective as a former resident of Brookings, bringing vivid examples to help shape a timely message.â€

Lammers serves on the board of directors of the Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation and the advisory board of the South Dakota State University School of Communication and Journalism. She recently completed terms on the boards of the Greater Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce and the Sioux Empire United Way.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in communication from Minnesota State University Moorhead and a master’s degree in organizational communication from North Dakota State University.

In addition to Lammers, messages will be delivered by leaders from the SDSU student body and administration as well as the community.

The rally and marade are sponsored by the SDSU Student Engagement Center, the SDSU Student-Athlete Advisory Council, the SDSU Students’ Association and First Bank & Trust.

Jay Molock, a student services support adviser, said, “We honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his legacy through the “Strength of the Dream†fourth annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Rally and Marade.

“Dr. King’s courage and wisdom is sustained by integrity and service, grounded in our shared pillars of excellence, ‘commUnity’ and opportunity for all, values of commitment, justice and equality that continue to strengthen the dream through awareness and understanding.â€
