South Dakota State University’s Hilton M. Briggs Library will host the fourth annual Jackrabbit Gallery Art Show this spring, showcasing original artwork from SDSU students, faculty, staff and alumni. This year’s theme, “Seeds and Roots,” encouraged artists to explore beginnings, growth, heritage and connection.

The Jackrabbit Gallery, located on the lower level of Briggs Library, serves as a space that nurtures creativity, reflection and appreciation of the visual arts while also providing a welcoming study environment for the campus community.

“This gallery is a place for both learning and inspiration,” Briggs Library Dean Kristi Tornquist said. “The Jackrabbit Gallery Art Show gives our community the opportunity to share its creativity, reflect on meaningful themes, and connect through art. We are incredibly grateful to Douglas and Sandra Olesen for their generous support in making the gallery possible.”

Briggs Library invited SDSU students, faculty, staff and alumni to submit original artwork related to the theme for display in the exhibition. This year’s show features 34 submissions from 28 artists.

A public reception for the art show will be held from 4-6 p.m. Feb. 5 in the lower level of Briggs Library. Awards will be announced at 5 p.m. The top three awards will be selected by the following judges: SDSU senior lecturer Peter Reichardt, SDSU lecturer Shannon Frewaldt, and community artist Karen Kinder. Additional awards include the Dean’s Award and People’s Choice.

The art show will remain on display throughout the spring semester and is open to the public during library hours.
