Some professions require certification or licensure in order to practice/work in the field. For instance, a student must hold a teacher certification to teach or a nurse must be licensed to work in a hospital. South Dakota State University offers a variety of courses and programs online and is committed to providing a quality education to help you reach your professional goals.

The curriculum for a number of degree programs at SDSU have been designed to meet the licensure or certification requirements in South Dakota and prepare students to sit for licensure exams in South Dakota.

Requirements for licensure or certification do vary by each state and students learning online, participating in field experiences or with the intent of returning or moving any state or territory other than South Dakota should be aware of the unique requirements for that state. In the Professional Licensure and Certification Programs Disclosure Map below, you will be able to identify where SDSU programs meet, do not meet or are not yet determined to meet a state’s educational requirements for licensure or certification.

Per the U.S. federal regulations, SDSU is unable to enroll students who will be physically located in a state or territory on the first day of class in the licensure program in which the SDSU professional licensure or certification program does not meet or is not yet determined to meet the educational requirements for licensure or certification.

Relocating to a different state after admission into a degree program may impact whether a student can remain in the degree program, meet the state licensure requirements and/or continue to receive financial aid funding. It is the student’s responsibility to notify the institution of a change in physical location.
