The 2011 BMW 5 Series is the first complete redesign of the 528i, 535i, and 550i in seven years. The new, sixth-generation 5 Series is slightly larger than the 2004 to 2010 editions. It’s more powerful, yet more fuel-efficient. And with a sleeker appearance and sportier feel than its predecessors, the 2011 BMW 5 Series is set to take its place as one of the most desired sedans on the market.

The new BMW 5 Series has been absolutely redesigned in appearance, merging elegance and sportiness into a classic, luxury sedan. The dimensions of the new 5 Series have been stretched—its length has grown by 1.7 inches, to 192.9 inches overall, and the width by 2.5 inches, to 73.2 inches overall. Its increased length and width gives the new 5 Series a more solid and substantial appearance than previous iterations.

Under the hood, the new 5 Series boasts a more powerful and efficient engine. The 2011 BMW 5 Series 535i has a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six-cylinder engine that produces 306 horsepower (an improvement over the 2010 535i). Even more impressive, the new BMW 528i has a 3.0-liter inline-six-cylinder at 258 horsepower (an increase of 28 horsepower from the 2010 528i). The new BMW 550i model has a V-8 engine and has been revamped with a twin-turbo 4.4-liter for around 407 horsepower. The new BMW 5 Series’ turbocharged engines grant for a quick ride that is more effortless than previous versions, while drivers are still healthy to feel the road – a trademark of BMW’s award-winning suspension and handling designs.

The new BMW 5 Series also returns to a full steel unibody for a more durable exterior—previously, the 2010 version was manufactured with an entirely aluminum front end. The new 5 Series features aluminum doors, hood, and front fenders—a total weight savings of about 50 pounds. Its aluminum parts make the new 5 Series safer and more fuel-efficient, while its restructured steel body makes it 55 percent stiffer and more resistant to bending forces than the 2010 5 Series.

The interior of the new BMW 5 Series has also been absolutely restyled into a more driver-oriented layout. Its elegant, long lines and perfectly ergonomic control system make the cabin a superb driving environment. The new designs also lengthen the 2011 BMW 5 Series wheelbase by a significant 3.2 inches—its 116.9-inch wheelbase is longer than any competitor and minimizes the front and rear overhangs to create a near-perfect 50/50 weight distribution. Overall, the restructured 5 Series body adds to the refreshing sporty feel of this performance sedan while increasing cabin width and leg room.

The new 2011 BMW 5 Series is both superior looking and more capable than its predecessors. It sets the bar for luxury in driving, while preserving fuel-efficiency and country at the same time. With a bolder exterior and an intuitive, sleek interior, the new BMW 5 Series is sure to dazzle drivers as it takes the stage in the American auto market this June.
