The Volvo brand is not exactly synonymous with dramatic styling. When the Volvo V70 estate was launched it dominated the premium massive estate automobile market, and defined the parameters by which estate automobiles were judged by mixing practicality, quality, comfort and desirability. The new version of Volvo V70 that appeared in Might 2008 appears to be sportier with dynamic driving characteristics. The cabin has comfortable seating and side support.
The chassis has been refined with the help of characteristics such as stiffer anti-roll bars and bushings, and a lower ground clearance. This helps in more direct contact with the road delivering more responsive and rewarding steering retort.
“The huge challenge with this project and the R-DESIGN chassis was to combine crisp driving pleasure with Volvo’s renowned secure properties in poor road conditions, such as heavy rain or snow. I’m convinced we’ve found exactly the right balance,” states Ekkehard Schwartz, Vice President Chassis and Automobile Dynamics.
The V70 is designed with R-design specification. This makes the chassis more appealing. The automobile has been customised to suit all stipulations of an estate. The R-Design badge is displayed on the exterior. With cratus alloy wheels, it gives the automobile a complete sportier look.

The rear of the all-new V70 has a more dynamic, more sculpted shape than in today’s model. The eye can even discern a forward-leaning upper gate section.
“In the leading estate car, the cargo should naturally ride as comfortably as the passengers do. Each tiny detail in the luggage compartment and all the accessories have been specially designed to give the correct feeling of luxury without compromising on the smart functionality that is and remains our mark of honour,” states Volvo Automobiles Design Director Steve Mattin.
The segment for estate automobiles is growing and the demands on the automobiles themselves are increasing as more and more sedan owners appreciate the added versatility that this roomier automobile type offers – without having to compromise on design, comfort or driving dynamics.
You can always rely on Volvo to screw a automobile together properly and then fill each acquirable space with airbags. Sure enough all V70 models feature driver, passenger and side airbags, plus curtains and whiplash protection.
