South Dakota State University, Black Hills State University and Monument Health celebrated the grand opening of the newly renovated and expanded nursing facility at BHSU-Rapid City on Sept. 30. The event marked a significant milestone in a collaborative effort to strengthen health care education and workforce development in western South Dakota.

Before South Dakota was a state, before the Dakota Agricultural College became South Dakota State University and even before the United States Weather Bureau, the precursor to the National Weather Service, was formed, there were people who recognized the value of collecting weather data. The first iteration of a weather station in Brookings began recording daily temperature and precipitation totals on July 1, 1888.

For the second consecutive year, student visits at the Engineering Career Fair topped 1,000, this time being a record 1,086 visits. The 2024 mark was 1,001. The Jerome J. Lohr College of Engineering Career Fair was Sept. 17-18 at Club 71 and loge-level spaces in Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium on the South Dakota State University campus.

Kate Connor is only a junior at South Dakota State University, but she already is developing quite a resume. The most recent entry is the receipt of a $5,000 scholarship from the American Society of Concrete Contractors, which was presented to her and a student from Middle Tennessee State at the association’s banquet in Indianapolis Sept. 10. In April, she was notified that she was the recipient of a $10,000 scholarship from another concrete group.
