South Dakota State University has earned business accreditation from the AACSB International for the Ness School of Management and Economics, as announced Feb. 14.

Today Brock Aleshire is a field engineer with the heavy civil engineering contractor Kraemer North America drawing a salary his parents could only imagine. A year ago, he was a senior at South Dakota State majoring in construction management. The step from collegian to contractor is a big one, but not insurmountable, certainly not with the assistance of the SDSU Office of Career Development. Aleshire, now of Casselton, North Dakota, began using the free services of the Office of Career Development in his sophomore year and doesn’t regret the early start.

Two South Dakota State University students in the landscape architecture program competed in an international competition in Istanbul, Turkey. Jake Pytleski and Miranda Peck represented the SDSU School of Design in the International Federation of Landscape Architects conference Sept. 4-6.

Marina Hendricks, assistant professor and graduate program coordinator for the online Master of Mass Communication in South Dakota State University’s School of Communication and Journalism, has been recognized as the David Adams Scholastic Journalism Division Educator of the Year.

By the narrowest of margins — two points out of more than 2,000 — the SDSU Quarter Scale Tractor Team came up just short of winning its third consecutive national title. Competing at the 27th annual International Quarter-Scale Tractor Student Design Competition at the Expo Gardens Fairgrounds in Peoria, Illinois, the South Dakota State University team placed third out of 21 teams.

David C. Earnest, the Odeen-Swanson Distinguished Professor and chair of the Department of Political Science at the University of South Dakota, has been named dean of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at South Dakota State University. Earnest was selected following a national search and will begin working on the SDSU campus July 8.

Former, current and future public servants gathered April 9 to celebrate the creation of the Mike Huether Public Service Academy at South Dakota State University.

The annual South Dakota State University Celebration of Faculty Excellence recognized 30 faculty members, researchers and scientists Tuesday. The event honors faculty members in the university's colleges for outstanding research, teaching and service.
