Jill Fier
Digital News and Media Relations Coordinator
Biography
Jill Fier has served as digital news and media relations coordinator at South Dakota State University since October 2022. In her role, she leads University Marketing and Communication’s Strategic Communications team. She oversees and contributes to work such as writing and editing news releases, managing, writing and editing content for many college-level publications across the university, editing website content to Associated Press style and assisting various internal and external stakeholders with other communications needs. She manages the SDSU News Center on the university’s website.
Fier also serves as a primary contact on campus for media relations, helping local, regional and national journalists find the expert sources they need for stories and setting up interviews, monitoring media coverage related to SDSU, and assisting in media training for various individuals and entities at SDSU.
Before coming to SDSU, Fier worked at The Brookings Register for 18 years, seven as a reporter and city editor and 11 as its managing editor. A Brookings native, Fier earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism from SDSU in 2004.
