Facts about The Lamborghini

Lamborghini creates some of the world’s most scintillating sports cars. The company is situated in a small village called Sant’Agata Bolognese in Italy. It was founded by Ferruccio Lamborghini in the year 1963. Ferruccio Lamborghini passed away in 1993 at the age of 77. He is still remembered and he continues to live on with his contribution in the vehicle industry.

Initially the Lamborghini S.p.A. started out as an autonomous company. In 1978, Lamborghini filed for bankruptcy and an Italian court was handed over the responsibility to find a suitable buyer. A Swiss based company called Mimran Brothers purchased it. Even though things were going on smoothly, the Mimran Brothers decided to sell the company to the American vehicle manufacturer Chrysler. Under the new ownership of Chrysler, the famous Lamborghini Diablo came into being. But Lady Luck seem to distance herself from Chrysler and in 1994, Chrysler was forced to sell the brand Lamborghini to an Indonesian investment group headed by Tommy Suharto. Luck unsuccessful again there too and as a result of economic crisis in the 1990s, Lamborghini was taken over by the German vehicle manufacturer Audi AG in 1998. Audi was successful in bringing back the Lamborghini fame by producing more exotic models.

The first Lamborghini called the Lamborghini 350 GTV was unveiled at the Turin Auto Show in 1963. The vehicle was launched commercially and it tuned out to be a tremendous hit. More than 130 units were built in that year and it was a complete sell out. The 350 GTV has a top speed of 280 km/h. The next year a smaller version of the same model was launched called 350GT which delivered a top speed of 240 km/h. In 1974, another model called Countach was unleashed and this vehicle could run 300 km/h. The Diablo is in fact the successor of the Countach.

The Le Mans version Murcielago R-GT is considered to be one of the fastest Lamborghini model which is stated to have attained the top speed of 370 km/h, whereas the road version of the same model called Murcielago LP640 can deliver a high speed of 340 km/h. Both the versions are powered by an above 6.0-litre V12 engine.

The latest models of Lamborghini are seen with those cool scissor doors which can be turned upward and forward on a hinge itself. Each Lamborghini model comes with a powerful V8 or above engines. The production of V8 engine was stopped long back in 1989 and the legendary V12 engine was introduced into the cars. But the latest model Gallardo is seen with a V10 engine.

Lamborghini is not just associated with super sports automobiles but also with marine engines. The old models of Lamborghini like the Diablo, the Countach and now the current model Murcielago have the familiar scissor doors rotating forward and up on hinges near the front door. Till 1989 all the Lamborghini models were produced with at least a V8 engine. Most of the Lamborghini models have the legendary V12 engine, the new model Gallardos have V10 engines. A low stance of the Lamborghini automobile has increased aerodynamic qualities with large tires digging into tarmac. The qualities of Lamborghini make it a perfect performance car. Driving a Lamborghini is like driving an F-1 race automobile and no special training is required. The automobile reaches 100 km/hr. within 3.4 seconds and when the foot is kept on the gas pedal, this automobile will go non stop at 340 km/h. The 12 cylinder engine has a gas tank which can carry 100 liters. The traditionally designed automobile has 2 doors, 2 seats coupe and mid mounted engine. Gear box is put in the front with optimal weigh distribution 42% front and 58% rear with special effects on braking, handling and traction. The carbon fiber body ensures the security of Lamborghini with roof, steel doors, tubular frame prefabricated of steel alloy and structural parts prefabricated of carbon fiber. Power vacuum, ventilated discs, aluminium alloy calipers, carbon ceramic brakes with front rear 6 piston break calipers are the salient specifications of the car.

Lamborghini Gallardo is considered the world’s tenth fastest car. This entry level automobile is the first of its kind with a large Lamborghini V10 engine producing 520 horsepower. The engine takes 13.65 seconds to go from a speed of 0 to 100 km per hour. The Gallardo also takes 4 seconds, to go from 0 – 60 mph making it a faster model than the Murcielago.
